Muriel's Mainichi Cooking presented by Hawaiʻi Gas is a new JCCH video series inspired by Muriel Miura's mainichi まいにち (everyday) recipes from the JCCH archives that were generously provided by her daughter, Shari Ling. Widely recognized as the face of The Gas Company (now known as Hawaiʻi Gas), Muriel gained popularity through classes, demonstrations, conferences, cooking shows, pamphlets, and cookbooks.
Ingredients (8)
1 cucumber
2 stalks celery
1/4 teaspoon salt
Vinegar Sauce:
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup vinegar
1/2 teaspoon MSG (monosodium glutamate)
Garnish:
2 radishes

Cut cucumber in half lengthwise. Slice cucumber and celery in thin diagonal pieces. Sprinkle with salt. Let stand 10 minutes; rinse salt off, drain then squeeze out excess water.
Combine ingredients for vinegar sauce; pour over vegetables and mix. Garnish with thinly sliced radishes.
Yield: 3 to 4 servings.
